Tennis – Best comment of the tournament?
In an interview with Chris Evert happening after Tiafoe won against Rafael Nadal, the dark horse of this year’s US Open 2022 edition mocked former world number one Chris Evert by referring to Serena Williams as the “GOAT.”
When Evert asked Tiafoe about his outfit and who inspired him, Tiafoe responded in a funny manner. “Obviously the GOAT, Serena Williams. Sorry, Chrissie,” said Tiafoe.
ESPN took the decision to cut out Tiafoe’s apologizing words when they published the moment on YouTube.
American tennis legend Chris Evert believes this US Open was the “perfect time” for Serena Williams to retire from professional tennis. Williams, who turns 41 this month, played her last ever US Open.Williams has made a name for herself in the business world in recent years, and she has also worked hard to be a good parent to her four-year-old daughter Olympia. “She’s 40-years-old,” Evert noted during her interview with The Guardian.
“She’s lost to players she would normally beat and she hasn’t trained because of injuries. She also has so many wonderful things in her life and so, instead of getting frustrated and sinking down the rankings, this is a perfect time for her to go out,” said Evert.
Regarding the GOAT competition, Evert acknowledged that Serena was the best of her time. In her era she is the greatest of all time. Then there’s the most accomplished career – how many tournaments you won and how consistent you were and I always include Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova alongside Serena because in my era they were the greatest of all time,” Evert explained. Chris Evert is a former 18-time Grand Slam champion. She turned pro in 1972 and retired in 1982.
