Federer deserves credit for dominating across multiple generations.
Former Slovenian tennis player Aljaz Bedene said Roger Federer had “the biggest influence in tennis” but believes it will be Novak Djokovic who will be the biggest in terms of results. Federer, a former 20-time Grand Slam champion, retired from professional tennis after this year’s Laver Cup.
Throughout his career, Federer was considered the ultimate icon of tennis and the best possible ambassador for the game. Federer is considered by many to have raised tennis to a whole new level and helped the game reach new heights.
However, he did not end up with the all-time Grand Slam record. Rafael Nadal owns a record 22 Grand Slams while Djokovic has 21 Majors in his collection. When all is said and done, Bedene expects Djokovic to finish off the all-time Grand Slam record.
“You have to open your eyes. Roger Federer had the greatest influence that is remembered in the world of tennis. If we talk about the best in terms of results, it will undoubtedly be Novak Djokovic. I am of the opinion that the Serbian will be the player with the most Grand Slam titles once all three have retired, also from Masters 1000, even in number of tournaments.
I have played many times against all three and Novak has the most difficult ball to tackle, he is perfect,” Bedene told Sport Klub. Following this year’s US Open, Bedene retired from professional tennis. During his stay on the Tour, he made many friends.
When it comes to the big three, Bedene says that at the end of the day they are just human beings, who will greet you politely when they meet you in the locker room. “I remember being recognized and greeted even by the best, like Rafa Nadal at the last US Open.
Despite their greatness, the greats of tennis are still human; I mostly got along with everyone.”
