Djokovic, who is a father to two kids, congratulated Nadal on the happy news. “Congrats! I didn’t know. Really? It’s a beautiful news. I wish his wife and baby a lot of health and happiness. As a father, I’m not gonna give any advise (smiling) him.
He has a big family. I’m sure he will experience himself (smiling),” Djokovic said after progressing into the Astana Open final.
Djokovic through to the Astana Open final
On Saturday, Djokovic clashed Daniil Medvedev in the Astana Open semifinal.
After Medvedev won the first set with a 6-4 score, Djokovic played better in the second set as the set went into a tie-break. In the tie-break, Djokovic realized his second set point to force a decider. After Djokovic won the tie-break with an 8-6 score, Medvedev approached him and retired the match because of a leg injury.
Djokovic, who was a bit stunned to see Medvedev retiring, understood after the Russian explained why he was forced to end the match. “I really hope that his injury is nothing too serious. I know Daniil, he’s a great guy, he’s a fighter, he’s a big competitor.
He wouldn’t retire a match if he didn’t feel that he [could] continue or [if it wouldn’t] worsen his injury. He told me that he pulled an adductor muscle in his leg. It was such a close match, particularly in the second set.
I would probably say he was a better player on the court in both sets,” Djokovic said. In the Astana Open final, Djokovic is set to play against Stefanos Tsitsipas. It remains to be seen if Djokovic can win his fourth title of the year at the Astana Open.
