American tennis player Steve Johnson says Novak Djokovic is without a doubt one of the greatest players in tennis history, adding that it is “insanity” not to allow him to compete at the US Open. Djokovic, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, will probably not participate in the US Open as he cannot enter the United States as an unvaccinated foreigner.
“You know, even though he is, I don’t know seven or eight in the world. Whatever right now. He’s the best player, you know,” Johnson said on Craig Shapiro’s podcast, via Sportskeeda..” I think him and Rafa.
These guys are the best players and you want the best players to compete in the Slams at the highest level. You know, whether you like Novak or not, he is one of the GOATs and that cannot be argued.” US authorities have recently relaxed some of their measures against COVID-19, but foreigners still have to show proof of vaccination when entering the country.
“Yeah, you know, I think it’s a little bit extremely unlucky. You know, I don’t see it. I think it’s a little crazy not to let him come into America and play. But then again, it’s my opinion, you know, I’m not someone from above who makes the rules,” Johnson added.
“I understand, I understand why the rules apply. I understand all of that, you know, I completely understand. But now that we’re two and a half years into this, you know, it seems a little crazy, not letting him in and I don’t think we’re going to get any policy changes before the Open to let him in, sadly.”
Travis speaks about Djokovic
American radio host Clay Travis has hailed Novak Djokovic for sticking to his principles even though it cost him the chance to win two Grand Slams. “Novak Djokovic gave up a chance at two majors he would have been favored to win over his refusal to get the useless covid shot,” Travis said.
“He actually gave up something by standing on principle, something you can’t say about any woke athlete over the past decade.” Travis added that there was no justification to keep Djokovic out of the US. “There is no justification whatsoever, to keep Novak Djokovic out of America,” he said.
“He could go down to our southern border and he could cross illegally into this country, and they do not test at all for COVID there. Novak Djokovic should be able to play in the US Open, this is not remotely controversial, there is zero health justification for keeping him out.”
