Nick Kyrgios says it would be great if he could play mixed doubles with Ashleigh Barty. In a video for the Tennis Channel, several players were asked which legend they would love to play mixed doubles with. Kyrgios, who reached her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon this year, named former Grand Slam champion Barty.
After winning this year’s Australian Open, Barty announced a surprising retirement from tennis at the age of 25. “I don’t think Ashleigh Barty and I have ever been associated, but I think it would be a nice combination,” Kyrgios said.
Kyrgios captured the Australian Open men’s doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis, while Barty won the Australian Open women’s singles title. “Ash’s father came to see us and told us that the crowd was the best he had ever seen.
Ash is obviously a great player. But people watch my games. Everywhere in the world where I play the stadiums are packed with that reason,” Kyrgios said after he and Kokkinakis won the title. Some Australian media outlets interpreted those comments as an attack by Kyrgios on Barty.
Kyrgios then took to Instagram, where he made it clear that he had nothing but love and respect for Barty. “What !”#$ the media. Honestly, I haven’t said anything disrespectful to Ashleigh Barty… I’m sad because this year’s audience was amazing and I feel like Thanasi Kokkinakis and I were a big part of that.”

Tennis great John McEnroe recently discussed controversial Aussie Nick Kyrgios and claimed that he is the player that the American is currently most compared to. “He (Nick Kyrgios) is the guy that I’m most compared to, and he’s the guy that, right now, if he is committed for the next couple of years, could do some really good things in tennis,” McEnroe said.
“To that with Nick, he’s moving the needle, and there’s a lot of new fans coming into the sport because of him, so that’s a real positive thing, McEnroe said, adding, “And he’s electrifying in a way, I’d like to think.
