1996 Australian Open doubles champion Chanda Rubin thinks Emma Raducanu is “feeling better” about her tennis and that’s a positive sign ahead of her US Open title defense. A year has passed since Raducanu’s stunning US Open triumph but she hasn’t won any titles since.
But Raducanu has been solid this summer as she reached the Washington quarterfinal and also clinched two very notable wins in Cincinnati. Last week in Cincinnati, Raducanu handed a 6-4 6-0 loss to Serena Williams, before dismantling Victoria Azarenka 6-0 6-2.
Going into the US Open, Raducanu is not considered as a top favorite for the title. But Rubin feels Raducanu could definitely make a solid run at Flushing Meadows.

“The most important part of it is, she goes into the tournament where she had her biggest result, where she wants to play well and defend to a certain degree, that she’s feeling better about her tennis,” Rubin said on Tennis Channel’s Inside-In, per Sportskeeda.
“And the worst thing is to not have matches under your belt, to feel like you’re just not quite there in terms of your form, going into this big event where you were celebrated as a champion just the year before.
So I think that’s been a great sign for Emma Raducanu, and I think she’s had a good mindset. It hasn’t been easy this last year, coming literally out of nowhere, coming from qualifying. That is just insane to think about it.
And now she’s a Grand Slam champion, but with relatively little experience over the course of a career. So I think she’s been building. She has had the right mindset.” In recent interviews, Raducanu suggested that she is looking forward to the conclusion of the US Open. Raducanu feels she will probably be able to start from the scratch after this year’s US Open finishes.
